Today we leave Douala on a chartered flight (dornier 228 - 19 seater) belonging to a local operator in Douala for the Dzanga Sangha speacial reserve where we intend to spend the next four days in quest of the illusive lowland gorillas, forest elephants, and entreat ourselves to a memorable net hunting experience with the Ba'aka folks.
There are no taxi aircraft linking this region, owing to its remote location and the lack of a ready-made market; thus one can either charter a plane which is not so cheap (CFA 1'100'000 or more!!! per block hour, excluding taxes...) or drive for three days in and three days out, a total of 6days spent on the road!
After approximately 2 hours of flight time, we land on a laterite airstrip (1350m by 60) and taxi to a hault; the sound of our plane heralds the local people to the airsptrip a gesture of their hospitality and piqued curiosity which normally warms our hearts. we off load our luggages from the plane and drive down to Doli lodge (our hotel). dinner and night.
