Created in 1993, Nouabalé-Ndoki lies in the north of the Republic of Congo 4000km2. It is part of three contiguous protected areas spanning Congo, the Central African Republic and Cameroon. This ecological bloc is internationally recognized as a key conservation site.
Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park offers Africa's ultimate rainforest experience. At its simple camps, amid untouched jungle, you'll meet few or (more likely) no other travelers and it's an adventure just to get there.
Rich in flora and fauna: (elephant, western lowland gorilla, chimpanzee, leopard, over 300 bird species and 1000 different plants). Its varied vegetation – open canopy forest and swamps attract sitatunga, red river hog and black-fronted duikers.
Mbeli bai is a natural swampy clearing and is a preferred feeding site for western lowland gorillas. It is often visited by more than one group of gorillas in a single day, and 19 groups and 8 solitary silverback gorillas have now been identified; totaling over 180 gorillas.
Observations are made from a platform overlooking the baï, offering unrestricted view of mammal species on the bai.
When to go Nouabalé-Ndoki's dry season runs from December to February, while the main rainy season is August to November. There is also a small rainy season in May. The average daily temperature seldom varies from 26°C.
Getting There Either by Charter light aircraft, by domestic flights from Brazzaville to Ouesso (the regional capital) or by road via Cameroon . Mbeli Bai Camp is accessed by 4x4 and local pirogue.
